To be or NOT to be (Medicated) 💊

When it comes to ADHD treatment options, ADHDers are divided on the topic of medication.

The decision to take medication is a very personal one—while some of us choose to manage our symptoms through medication, others may prefer a holistic alternative.

Ultimately, we should always have the final say in our treatment plan.

Here are my two cents on the medicated vs non-medicated ADHD debate:

Living with ADHD is a lot like riding a bike. 🚲

You stumble at first, but then, as you ride and practice, you learn all the nuances of bike riding.

You learn to tilt your body when nearing a curve to make riding that curve easier.

You soon know that when you're tired, you keep pedaling, albeit slower, because coming to a complete stop kills your motivation and ability to keep moving.

You learn how and when to switch gears to make pedaling easier when going uphill or downhill.

Eventually, you learn how to ride in traffic safely and signal effectively.

Then, you take your bike to the shop. The owner informs you that you are still using the stock cranks pre-equipped with your bicycle. They convince you to upgrade your crankset (the parts attached to your pedals) to make your riding more efficient.

And so you do. And the difference is noticeable. 😳

You had already learned the riding skills, but now you have elevated your bike-riding experience.

Pills don’t teach skills 💊.

You have to build that skill set.

But medication can help make your ADHD bike ride a lot smoother. 🚲
